project:simplify • week two

Tuesday, 15 March 2011

Simple Mom revealed this week’s hot spot yesterday morning, and I’d be less than honest if I didn’t say I’m not entirely jazzed by this one. Last week’s task was so liberating and I felt like I’d accomplished so much when I was finished—in an abbreviated time frame, even!— and in comparison this one is just…meh.

It might be just that paper clutter isn’t really an issue for me. Now—before you reach through your computer screen and smack me—that isn’t because I don’t have paper clutter. I do. It’s just that it builds up a bit, and I clear it away, and it really doesn’t bother me all that much…until it does, and that’s how I know it’s time to clear it away. Also, a few years ago I started scanning pretty much every piece of paper we need to keep; I use Paperless to organize it all. I even download PDFs of things that don’t come in as paper, like “paperless” bills. And knitting patterns…lots and lots of knitting patterns.

But I do have paper clutter, and while it isn’t my personal simplifying bugaboo, it would certainly save me some time if I didn’t have to plow through it and clear it away every few weeks. So, to begin: A few “before” pictures.

{who doesn’t have clutter next to the computer??}

{this little basket on the kitchen table is a paper magnet…}

Tomorrow night I’m hoping to make the time to gather it all together in a big box and dig in. Stay tuned…

    I’m terrible with paper clutter. It’s really bad (you’ll see it soon.)

    When I get my mac back, I should try Paperless.
