Joining Ginny at small things again this week—

On the needles…
I needed a break from the sweater I’ve been working on, so I started on Knoodle Knits’ Crunchy Mama Slouchy Tam. The yarn is Malabrigo merino worsted in sapphire magenta. (Ravelry details here.) It knits up really quickly—although each round seems to take an eternity once all the increases are done!—and I think I should be finished with it in another day or two and then I’ll be giving the sweater my full attention…until I get bored with it again…

Yes, I am aware that it is now March & here I am knitting up a wool hat for myself. But I had an extra skein of wool & wanted a hat to go with the cowl I made last weekend… (Ravelry details on that here.)

On the nightstand…
I’m still working my way through Simplicity Parenting—it seems somehow denser than many of the other parenting books I’ve read, and I’m finding I need to read very carefully to take it all in. So it’s taking me a bit longer than usual to read.

Among the treasures my grandmother brought for me when she visited a few weekends ago was The Knitting Collection, a cards-and-binder set that was sold by subscription in the early 1980s. (I remember helping my grandmother put the cards in her binders—which might explain why they aren’t in anything resembling the correct order.) I’m going through the binders to see what might be useful and what is hopelessly out of date (apart from the hairstyles), and I’m sure I’ll be posting about it again.

In the meantime, a small taste…

{see what I mean about the hairstyles?}

    I love the poses…is that a man holding an umbrella? Love that yarn.

      I think he is! I’d have to look at the card again to be sure, and it’s somewhere in the stack over there on the side table. 🙂 The poses, the hairstyles – and some of the fashions – are hilarious. I’m having a lot of fun going through them. 🙂

    Beautiful color! And why not knit a hat in March, the next winter will be here before you know it. Time just seems to fly by right now…

      This is true. And I am already working on Christmas gifts so I guess a hat for next fall/winter isn’t too unreasonable. 🙂

      I love that about this linkup – it is so nice to be inspired by what other people are working on & add projects to the queue. I’m glad you were inspired by my project this week. 🙂

    Ooo, I love that yarn. I’ve been wanting to get some Malabrigo for awhile. I’ve heard it’s luxuriously soft. I’m proud that you’re making something for yourself with it!

    I took Simplicity Parenting back to the library after someone gave a talk on it at church. It sounded heavy just hearing someone tell me about it! I love the yarn… the colours are GORGEOUS!
